Specialized Studio Instruction

Farkash Music Studio offers specialized studio instruction in piano, flute, oboe, and recorder, both online and in-person. We encourage creativity and individuality while equipping students with the technical and expressive tools to communicate through music. We teach all ages and no experience is necessary. We have just relocated to Tampa and are now accepting students in the Greater Tampa Bay Area. Our studio is located in Carrollwood and we are just minutes away from Citrus Park, Westchase, Northdale, Odessa, Town N Country, Lutz, and more. If you are in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, feel free to contact us for in-person lessons.

Competition Achievements

Many of our students compete in competitions through various district, regional, and national competitions. Such competitions have included organizations such as the FBA Solo & Ensemble, District Honor Band, All-State Band, All-State Orchestra, Tampa Young Artist Competition and Festival, CU Honor Band, and CSU Honor Band.

Festivals & Ensembles

Playing a musical instrument naturally lends itself to being part of a larger ensemble. Students are supported and encouraged to audition for chamber music groups, festivals, orchestras, and additional ensembles. Many students earn top placements in their auditions.

Awards & Recognition

Within the studio, students are recognized and presented with awards each recital season for outstanding achievements. Categories include most improved musician, outstanding musicality, and outstanding effort through hard work and committed practicing.

Testimonials:

"I am so grateful to have found Maureen Farkash as an oboe teacher for my son. Through her teaching, he has excelled in high school band and youth orchestra and she has inspired him to pursue a music degree in college. He has also gained confidence, creativity and discipline which crosses over into all aspects of his life."

-Sheela, parent

“I consider myself fortunate to have found my flute teacher, Maureen. I had been taking lessons for a few years from someone else, but not really progressing -- Since I switched to Maureen, my family has remarked that they can tell I've improved. She is patient and thorough and has a great sense of humor.”

-Diane Malk, 70 years young

“I'm a senior citizen who played oboe in high school and got a strong urge to start again. Fortunately, I found Maureen and we started lessons and have been together for nearly 2 years. At every lesson Maureen has been very instructive and patient, making sure that I neither started new bad habits nor went back to old bad ones. I feel I have come a long way. Her advice about instruments and reeds has helped me immensely.

Additionally, I've had the opportunity to catch small glimpses of Maureen's techniques with children. Always patient, always teaching them the right way to play their instruments, always praising when they do the right thing.

Maureen is an outstanding professional musician herself and has just the right elements to teach her students. I wouldn't want any other teacher.”

-Debby

“Maureen has been teaching oboe to my 7th grade daughter for 8 months and we are so completely happy with the quality lessons (mostly virtual due to COVID) that she provides. In addition to her improved technique, Georgia’s confidence in playing has grown, as has her enjoyment of the instrument. We are so thankful to have found such a great teacher!”

-Kristen, parent

“I have been learning flute from Ms. Farkash for 2 years. One of the most meaningful things I love about Ms. Farkash her is support and encouragement. She has always been there for me. When I am playing a piece and get nervous, she stops me and says, ‘It’s okay, take a deep breath, you got this!’ She always believes in me!”

-Bea, 4th grade, age 9

“My sons have been taking music lessons with Ms. Farkash for the past 4 years.  Her patience and skill in teaching have allowed them to progress steadily and gain confidence in their ability to play piano.  Her teaching methods have helped them feel engaged in learning and she provides an environment that they look forward to attending each week.  Ms. Farkash makes both of my children feel comfortable in their level of ability while still challenging them to be better.  She is committed to their well being and advocates for them as learners, taking the time to listen and connect with both of their very different personalities.”

-Alison, parent

“Ms. Farkash is an amazing teacher. I’ve had her as my piano teacher for 3 years, and she was my music teacher through elementary school. She is super patient, and goes at your pace, and when you don’t understand, she’s very helpful and nice. I couldn’t have asked for a better piano teacher!”

-Tyler, age 11

“My daughter’s love for music has blossomed under Maureen’s teaching. She looks forward to lessons every week!”

-Kapi, Parent

"Maureen has always been extremely knowledgeable, helpful, encouraging, and kind. Her teaching has bettered me as a person and as a musician and has motivated me to pursue music in college."

-Gibson, age 16

“Maureen has really helped me grow as an oboist. She goes at my own pace and really helps me understand everything. I actually started this past year and already sound so much more beautiful and warm instead of sounding like a duck trying to sing. Even with being over FaceTime my skill level has grown so much.”

-Georgia, age 13

"My daughter, Celia, who is 6 years old, has been taking piano lessons with Maureen for two years now and it's amazing to see the progress in that time. Celia is always happy to go to class!"

-Sabrina, parent

“Maureen has been working with my sons 11 and 7 for over 2 years now. Their love for music and playing the piano has grown tremendously during this time, which has been astounding.  Maureen is a knowledgeable, energetic, warm, and fun teacher who imparts good techniques and at the same time instills a lifelong appreciation of music. She is extremely professional, down to earth, and  warm in her communication style with my kids, which has made their teacher-student relationship even stronger.  My boys look forward to and enjoy every lesson with Maureen. I absolutely recommend her to any one who would like to learn piano.”
